About Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole

Poole

Poole Harbour

Just down the road from the site of Skerryvore, Robert Louis Stevenson's summer house, lies Poole. It's only a road, the Avenue, that largely divides this section of Bournemouth from Poole but the topography and the atmosphere change dramatically as you pass over the boundary.

Poole is dominated by one of the largest natural harbours in the world. There are daily ferry connections from the harbour direct to Cherbourg and a number of high profile sailing clubs border the shore line. It is surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in England, much of it under the enduring protection of the National Trust. All of it peppered with tourist attractions – Studland Bay, Brownsea Island, Corfe Castle, Lulworth Cove and the incomparable villages and heartland of Thomas Hardy novels.

Gracious living can be found in the peaceful glades of Canford Cliffs and Lower Parkstone, and the serenity and exclusivity of Sandbanks – an area where some of the world's most expensive properties can be found.

The energy of the harbour shoreline near Lilliput and the vibrant pace of life in Poole itself, focussed on Dolphin Quays' restaurants and choice of night life venues. And all of the facilities which you've come to expect in a modern thriving shopping centre in the town nearby – hospital, supermarkets, cinemas and services.
