The Fitness Centre at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London is fitted with the latest Technogym™ equipment and has its own Wellness System to give visitors a connected and easily managed workout. As well as the fully equipped cardio & resistance training facility, the hotel’s Fitness Centre includes a heated indoor twin lane swimming pool, a relaxation lounge including Four Senses Loungers and an internet lounge. The male changing room is fitted with a comfortable sauna and the female changing room features its own steam room. The staff and trainers at the hotel are happy to assist with training programmes and resident body strengthening and conditioning coach, Ruben Tabares is on hand to train and inspire guests with health and wellness.

1)Tell us a bit about the history of The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, London and the Fitness and Wellbeing Centre

The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, London is a haven of tranquillity where the boundaries of East and West blend in harmony. Drawing on exotic therapies and philosophies from around the world, a series of specially designed Time Rituals are offered to rejuvenate body and spirit. The Fitness and Wellbeing Centre opened in May 2014 and includes a seventeen metre indoor swimming pool and state-of-the-art technology, tailored to the cosmopolitan traveller, and open to private membership with residents of London in mind. The Fitness Centre is fully-equipped with the latest cardio and resistance training by Technogym™. This includes a Kinesis Vision Unit that is programmed with structured workouts for time-efficient and results-orientated training for beginners, intermediate and advanced levels.

2)As well as the pool and gym, what other features are available to guests?

For relaxing Four Senses loungers equipped with heated gel pads, colour-changing light sequences, essential oil fragrance and personal audio systems, offering the ultimate in relaxation. There is also a steam room, with radiant walls and ergonomically shaped seating, (in the female area) and a sauna (in the male area), with ice fountains and experience showers available in both male and female areas, to complete the experience.

The Spa combines harmonious design elements with therapeutic rituals and is entirely dedicated to guests’ wellbeing. Guests are encouraged to fully immerse themselves in the philosophy of The Spa by relaxing within the separate male and female heat and water areas. 3)Tell us about the connection with Ruben Tabares and the focus on health and wellbeing at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London.

Ruben Tabares is considered one of the most in-demand strength and conditioning trainers in the UK. Specialised in nutrition with a qualification from the University of Manchester, Ruben started working at The Fitness Suite as a consultant looking after the members and guests who are under his physical and nutritional regime. Ruben Tabares has developed “Mum’s the Word” a complete health program, which promises a full body recovery and optimal health for both mum and baby. His belief that body, mind and soul are all connected, complements the holistic philosophy of The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, London.
