It’s the final weekend of the proms so there really is no excuse to not join the festivities! Friday features Sir Simon Rattle conducting the Vienna Philharmonic and the BBC Proms Youth Choir in Elgar’s choral masterpiece. Beginning at 19:30 with soloists Magdalena Kožená, Toby Spence and Roderick Williams this is sure to be an unmissable choral masterpiece. To really delve into the heart of the proms you can prepare for the final night by attending the free Proms Extra sing at 17:00 on Saturday with Mary King and members of the BBC Singers at the Royal College of Music before attending the last night at the Royal Albert Hall from 19:30 to enjoy performances from Pianist Benjamin Grosvenor, soprano Danielle de Niese and tenor Jonas Kaufmann. If you prefer the great outdoors then you can appreciate the proms from 17:15 at Hyde Park. Hosted by Sir Terry Wogan and staring The Jacksons, Russell Watson, the cast of the hit musical Memphis and The Mavericks to name a few, this event is the perfect farewell to this year’s proms.

In homage to HM Queen Elizabeth II’s recent milestone as our longest reigning monarch, it only seems polite to head out for a spot of afternoon tea this weekend at one of Kensington and Chelsea’s top hotels and café’s. The Bluebird café, located on the King’s Road serves up a delicious traditional afternoon tea consisting of a selection of finger sandwiches, an array of leaf teas, a variety of delicate sweets and cakes and of course the all-important fruit scones with clotted cream and jam. Alternative tea-time locations include the beautiful Gore Hotel between Knightsbridge and Hyde Park and The (aptly named) Milestone Hotel which overlooks Kensington Palace and Kensington gardens and even offer Prince and Princess afternoon tea for smaller mouths! Wherever you choose, it seems imperative that one should raise one’s tea cup to our monarch this weekend! If you want to learn any more about the establishments mentioned then simply click on the links below:
