Area guide: Chelsea

Chelsea is a highly desirable and affluent area of prime central London.

Throughout the 60s the King’s Road along with Carnaby Street was the place to be for fashion. Home to both the Sloane Ranger and the birth of punk, it is now one of London’s most sought after areas, with rows of beautiful townhouses, many of which are owned by footballers and property tycoons.

Highlights

Window shopping on Sloane Street is a true pleasure, as is strolling along the Chelsea embankment. Foodies will thoroughly enjoy the Farmer’s Market which is located on Sydney Street. Here, you can expect organic, hand-picked, macrobiotic-friendly items.

King’s Road and Fulham Road both run parallel to the river, this ensures that you are never more than a short walk from a world-class restaurant, a lovely boutique or an exciting antique shop.

Royals and celebrities alike are attracted to the annual Chelsea Flower Show. The museums and the Royal Albert Hall garner cultural interest all year round.

The riverside, numerous garden squares and the grounds surrounding the glorious Wren buildings of the Royal Hospital provide charming green spaces.

Location

Chelsea is idyllically located along the River Thames in the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Until 1965 Chelsea formed its own borough. Chelsea is bordered by Knightsbridge and South Kensington to the north, Fulham to the west, Belgravia to the east and River Thames to the south.

Local Property

Grand, stucco-fronted properties, garden squares and elegant townhouses fill Chelsea; resulting in some of the most impressive property in London. Combining this with its location on the river, interesting antique shops and wonderful boutiques makes Chelsea one of the most popular areas in London.
