Heritage London Mansion Blocks: The Rising Star In Lateral Apartment Living

With a seemingly never-ending cycle of residential new developments across London, there is no shortage of identikit lateral luxury apartments to view and purchase. The only differentiating criteria appears to rest with whether you want a river view or a park view.

However, change is afoot. Increasingly, YOUhome is seeing growing demand for a blend of contemporary interior design within an authentic period building (going against the resale market of new build developments.) Kensington’s grand mansion block apartments are currently experiencing a renaissance.

Ultra-modernised 1900s mansion block apartments can now offer similar, if not larger lateral space, when compared to a new build. In addition, they encompass the requisite concierge service and of course a parking permit. There is now little demand for in-house gyms and pools within the block, which can hike up service charges to the tens of thousands of pounds annually. These services are rarely used because today’s consumers would rather visit a local private member gym such as KX & Equinox.

The mansion block delivers magnificent heritage red brick facades, traditional grand street frontages with sweeping internal bays and balconies. Signature tall ceilings and expansive outdoor private gardens make the London mansion block reassuringly grand living space today. In addition, with modern building techniques applied internally to enable the upgrading of plumbing and the addition of air conditioning, these lateral spaces are meeting modern needs spot on.

Our recent YOUhome sale of a stunning lateral apartment in Kensington Mansions perfectly illustrates the appeal of the London mansion block.
